Moreland welcomes a new project for Arabic, Assyrian and Chaldean communities.
August 14, 2008
Come to the launch on Thursday 28th August and register your interest in getting involved.
The Moreland Energy Foundation in partnership with the Australian Lebanese Welfare Inc. Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre and a range of other local organisations is pleased to launch a new project for Arabic, Assyrian and Chaldean communities in Moreland.
The Green Town project, run in partnership with Environment Victoria is funded by the Victorian Government Sustainability Fund and will train local members from the Arabic, Assyrian and Chaldean communities to conduct environmental audits for 70 households and 15 businesses in Moreland.
Other aspects of the project include the development of English as second language (ESL) materials so that environmental issues are integrated into classroom teaching in neighbourhood houses and community learning centres, as well as a range of workshops and other environmental initiatives.
The project will assist in developing skills and expertise around environmental issues in these communities as well as achieving reductions in water use, energy use and waste going to landfill. Participating homes and businesses will receive a free audit plus free items to assist them to reduce their energy and water use and cut their utility bill costs.
The launch will be an opportunity to find out more about the project. Moreland Arabic/Assyrian and Chaldean households, businesses or individuals who are interested in training as an auditor or receiving a free audit will also be able to register their interest at the launch.
The launch and information session will take place on Thursday 28 August, 6pm- 7.30pm at the Brunswick Town Hall, 233 Sydney Rd. Brunswick.
