Home Energy Action Training
MEFL has run training programs in household energy efficiency for local government staff, businesses and other organisations. Focusing on practical action these training programs have been delivered as skills development modules for specific projects or as general staff development.

Although content is always tailored to suit a particular project, organisation or workplace, areas often covered include:

  • Energy basics (what is a watt?)
  • Breakdown of energy around the home (where does all the energy go?)
  • Opportunities for reducing energy (structural changes and behavioural actions)
  • Effective communication techniques (talking about energy to others)
  • Home Energy Action has been successful in building capacity in hundreds of trainees across all sectors of our community.

Case Study: All in a day's work

When Moreland City Council's home maintenance team get together the tools come out and the jokes fly, all part of the job. These guys spend their days helping out around town, doing lots of odd jobs to make Moreland residents happy.

MEFL successfully managed to find $4000 in grant money to buy energy-saving kits for the teams' clients. The team spent a day at CERES training up on installation techniques.

The team worked hard testing a low-flow showerhead, attaching door and window weather-stripping, wrapping insulation around hot water pipes and sealing draughty windows with 'double-glazing' film. The Origin Energy EcoHouse got the benefit of their work on the day. Many Moreland residents will feel the benefit of their training in weeks to come.
