  • Moreland municipality is on the inner-city fringe of the city of Melbourne, Australia. The Council has a reputation for putting many new and exciting cutting-edge projects into practice. MEFL is no exception to this, being the first and only such organization of its kind in Australia.

    History
The Moreland community has a history of involvement in groundbreaking work on energy and climate change. During the 1980's the council-owned Brunswick Electricity Supply Department provided innovative programs to not only supply electricity but also to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy. In the mid 1990's the State Government privatized the electricity industry, forcing local councils to sell their electricity supply companies.

Instead of allowing this valuable work to be lost with the sale, the Moreland community lobbied the newly formed Moreland City Council to use some of the return from the sale to establish a community entity focused on energy. After much consultation with the community, MEFL was formed as a company limited by guarantee.

    Moreland Taking Action
Everyone can make a positive contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Moreland Energy Foundation's work involves the whole community: schools, households, businesses, retailers, community centres and community groups.

Moreland Energy Foundation depends on the support of its members and volunteers to spread its work out into the broader community. MEFL recognizes that to achieve our goals we need to work with and for our local community in many different ways.
